Illustration Friday's weekly prompt starting August 3rd is "bumblebee."
I recently found a quote online from the movie Jupiter Ascending -- "Bees are genetically disposed to recognize royalty."
And! around the same time I read an article about 300 golden bees found adorning the ceremonial cloak of Childeric, an ancient king in France. To break away from previous monarchs, Napoleon revived Childeric's symbol of the bee to represent his French empire.
I liked how these snippets dovetail together, and came up with my illustration. A crown made of bees! Iris flowers were added in the background, the national flower of France.
